“Proprietary blend” is one of the most common phrases on supplement labels — and one of the most misunderstood.
A proprietary blend label names every ingredient included, usually listed in descending order by weight. That part is required by regulation.
What it skips is the amount of each individual ingredient. You know what's in the blend, but not how much of each — which means you can't directly compare it to the doses used in published research on any single ingredient.
If a formula includes ingredients that only work at specific, research-backed doses, a proprietary blend makes it impossible to know if you're actually getting an effective amount or a token amount.
A proprietary blend isn't automatically a dealbreaker, but it is a real limitation. Weigh it against other factors like refund policy, ingredient quality claims, and your own tolerance for uncertainty.
